Joan is a retired licensed full time elementary science staff developer and classroom teacher for the NYC Board of Education. A Brooklyn-native and a long-time Manhattan resident, Joan is dedicated to sharing her love of science, nature and art with children and adults through Forest Therapy sessions.

Joan graduated from the High School of Performing Arts (La Guardia) and became a performer. As an artist in residence for NYC theater companies she taught drama, playwriting and puppetry to students in private and public schools. She developed her passion for teaching when she attended and graduated from the Museum Education program at Bank Street. She later worked with museums to develop curriculum for all levels based on the exhibits, and later became a teacher NYC school-teacher. Joan was one ten urban teachers to participate in the USDA TEACH US-South Africa program. Currently, Joan is completing her Forest Therapy Certification with Treebath. She is an avid appreciator of city and state parks and frequently leaves the city to commune with a forest, especially in upstate New York, Vermont and California.

Joan is certified with basic First Aid and CPR training.
