Joanie has always found her passions in nature and wildlife. After earning her bachelor’s degree, Joanie completed her Masters in Environmental Conservation Education.  Joanie became the New York area campaign coordinator and development director for Rainforest Relief, where she worked primarily towards ending or reduction of US consumption of tropical rainforest and old-growth forest products.   

Joanie went on to earn her Masters in Social Work and provided therapeutic services to The New York Mental Health Association’s Hope Addiction’s Line, and New York City Public Schools. Recently, Joanie earned her License in Clinical Social Work, and currently maintains a private practice offering therapy that supports and cultivates a safe space for individuals from all backgrounds. 

Joanie is also a certified Forest Therapy Guide, who has been leading walks to help New Yorkers reap the benefits of nature in New York City’s parks.  In her spare time, Joanie is a writer of fiction, creative non-fiction, and plays and is currently working towards her MFA.
